Session One
Being in the Moment
Being in the moment is the actor’s province and by inhabiting the moment and revealing an inner life; the actor communicates the depth and complexity of being human.
Session Two
The Autonomous Actor
When actors develop expanded awareness and kinaesthetic strength, they achieve physical, imaginal and emotional fluency. They become autonomous through their ability to anchor their strong performances and contribute dynamically to the process of inspired collaboration.
Session Three
Our Doubts are Traitors
We need to give ourselves permission to work without fear of negative judgement.
We need to keep the critic at bay by dissolving our fear of failure and challenging ourselves to dance a one step on the brink.
We have a choice: we can work from a source of love or we can work from a source of fear.
We can practise self-compassion.
Session Five
The Pathway to Character
The words of a well-written play or script inevitably contain or encapsulate the character’s reality and trajectory. Therefore, if we truly investigate, understand, and process the language, we are able to plumb the subterranean depths of character. Before we begin this venture, we need to do some research into the language. We need to enlist our rational selves before we depend upon our experiential selves; we need to embrace the mantle of meaning. We must not take language for granted, by generalising and reducing it.
Session Four
The Power of Language
Language does have an impact upon the human body and mind. It is imperative that the actor understands this and serves the text by revealing the complexity of meaning, rather than ironing it out with an attitude or character choice.
There are participants from many continents and time zones therefore the first few sessions will be pre-recorded.
